Finn remains in England contention despite being ruled out of second India Test

Injured seamer Steven Finn could still feature on the Test tour of India after England opted against sending him home.

Finn will play no part in tomorrow's second Test due to an aggravation of the thigh complaint that kept him out of the series opener and there were fears the fast bowler would be flying home.

But scans offered some reason for hope and England now plan to play Finn in a three-day match for the England Performance Programme squad in Mumbai next week to test his fitness.

His pace and height are seen as vital to England's chances and they are keen to keep him in India if there is a chance of fielding him during the third or fourth Tests, which begin on December 5 and December 13 respectively.

A brief statement from the ECB yesterday read: "Steven Finn to remain in Mumbai to continue rehab with view to playing for EPP 27-29 Nov at DY Patil Stadium."

Meanwhile, batsman Jonathan Trott has spoken of his determination to fulfil his lifelong ambition of a successful Test tour to India.

England's South Africa-born batsman has already done his adopted country proud at home, in Australia and elsewhere in his three-year international career.

On his first Test tour to India, however - he was here last year for England's highly-unsuccessful one-day international campaign, and during the World Cup before that - he could muster just 17 runs in two innings in the first match of four.

Trott was part of a misfiring middle order in which numbers three to six managed only 68 runs in their eight attempts combined on the way to a nine-wicket defeat which even captain Alastair Cook's 217 runs in the match could not avert.

But as England seek to level the series in the second Test, set to get under way tomorrow at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Trott has revealed a predictable appetite for the battle.

"It was always one of my ambitions to come on a Test tour of India," said England's number three.

"I'm here now, and I want to make the most of it."

Trott takes issue with the conclusion, arrived at by many after England's lack of success against Pragyan Ojha and Ravichandran Ashwin in Ahmedabad and against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates last winter, that sub-Continental spin is a mystery he and his teammates cannot crack.

"I still think we're generally improving," he said.

"You have to trust your own game, and produce."

How the UAE gratuity payment is calculated now

Employees leaving an organisation are entitled to an end-of-service gratuity after completing at least one year of service.

The tenure is calculated on the number of days worked and does not include lengthy leave periods, such as a sabbatical. If you have worked for a company between one and five years, you are paid 21 days of pay based on your final basic salary. After five years, however, you are entitled to 30 days of pay. The total lump sum you receive is based on the duration of your employment.

1. For those who have worked between one and five years, on a basic salary of Dh10,000 (calculation based on 30 days):

a. Dh10,000 ÷ 30 = Dh333.33. Your daily wage is Dh333.33

b. Dh333.33 x 21 = Dh7,000. So 21 days salary equates to Dh7,000 in gratuity entitlement for each year of service. Multiply this figure for every year of service up to five years.

2. For those who have worked more than five years

c. 333.33 x 30 = Dh10,000. So 30 days’ salary is Dh10,000 in gratuity entitlement for each year of service.

Note: The maximum figure cannot exceed two years total salary figure.
