Cesc Fabregas, the Arsenal captain, feels he is "looking good" to be fit for Spain at the World Cup. The midfielder, 22, has been out of action since suffering a cracked bone in his fibula during the Champions League game against Barcelona on March 31. Spain's opening match is against Switzerland on June 16. "I'm pleased to say that my recovery is on schedule. "The timing is looking good for the World Cup," he wrote in the Arsenal programme yesterday.
Meanwhile Australia's bid to host the World Cup has received a boost after the country's three rivals codes agreed to support Football Federation Australia's submissions. Australia are in the running to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cups, but their plans were hindered by the reluctance of rival codes - rugby league, rugby union and Australian Rules - to allow their stadiums to be utilised in a bid.
