Lando Norris seals back-to-back wins with victory in Dutch Grand Prix

Lando Norris made it back-to-back victories after coming out on top in a topsy-turvy Dutch Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver, who won in Hungary last time out before Formula One's summer break and started in pole position on Sunday, came home 11 seconds ahead of title-race leader Kimi Antonelli with his Mercedes teammate George Russell third.

Max Verstappen's hopes of winning the final race on his home turf of Zandvoort were ended following a high-speed crash on the opening lap that resulted in a red flag.

Antonelli took the lead from Norris at the restart but the reigning Formula One champion would fight back before going to take the chequered flag.

“A tough race,” said Norris. “Yesterday I said we needed to out on a bit of a show for everyone for the final race here. I made it tough for myself today but a good race, well fought.

“Probably one of my better wins, we had to fight for it. The pace was very strong and we managed things well. Over the moon, very happy. Nice to win the final race in Zandvoort.”

Antonelli's teammate Russell obeyed ‌orders to let the Italian – on fresher tyres – through late in the race as the teenager increased his championship lead to 59 points.

Russell and Lewis Hamilton are both tied in second place on 183 each following the Ferrari driver's fourth-place finish.

Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc finished fifth with Oscar Piastri sixth and Liam Lawson, a stand-in for injured Isack Hadjar, seventh for Red Bull.

Every F1 race at Zandvoort since the circuit returned to the calendar in 2021 after a 36-year absence has been won from pole, and Sunday's will keep it that way as the last for the foreseeable future.

“It was a very intense race, I managed to get the lead, the I just didn't have the feeling with the car,” said Antonelli.

“It was sliding a lot, Lando passed me and I knew I had no chance after that. George was a great team player, happy for him to hold on to P3 as well.”

When asked whether he could now be in the running to challenge Antonelli for the title, Norris – who is 59 points behind the leader – said: “It sounds boring but one race at a time. There's no point thinking that far ahead, I need to concentrate on having a nice little break. Two great weekends but we need to reset and learn as much as we can.”

Russell, with help from a further late virtual safety car due to debris on track, managed to hold off Hamilton off to take the final podium position.

“These two [Norris and Antonelli] were very quick at the beginning and Lando was just exceptionally fast towards the end of the race so it was tough to hold on in those old tyres.

“I'm happy to be standing here on the podium because It could have gone either way … It's been a strong weekend overall so I'll take the positives.”
