England require another 288 runs for Dubai Test win

The tourists end day's play on 36-0 after being set 324 to win third and final match of series.

Monty Panesar has taken four wickets in Pakistan's second innings in Dubai so far.

STUMPS: England made it to the close of play without being breached, as they set about their daunting run chase in the third Test.

After Azhar Ali crafted a stubborn 157 in 442 deliveries – his second Test ton at this ground – Pakistan were bowled out for 365, meaning England were set a hefty 324 to salvage a consolation victory from a series that is already lost.

Monty Panesar was England’s start turn with the ball, as he picked up his 10th five-wicket haul of his Test career.

Alastair Cook (15) and Andrew Strauss (19) were not out at the close, with their 36 for no wicket being the highest stand they have shared in this series.

TEA: Panesar earned reward for his 51 overs of toil as he picked up a flurry of Pakistan wickets in the afternoon session.

The left-arm spinner sent back Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq and Adnan Akmal in quick succession, as England finally broke Pakistan's resistance in the third Test.

Azhar remains immovable however. At tea he had reached 147 not out in 424 balls, batting his side to a lead of 308 with two wickets remaining.

LUNCH: Azhar added the gloss to an already priceless innings for his country, when he reached three figures in the morning session at Sports City.

He went at a funereal pace to get there, but it has been just what Pakistan required. His second Test hundred arrived in 319 balls, but it is not like his side needed to rush.

After a frenetic opening four sessions, when 22 wickets fell, there is plenty of time left in the Test.

Azhar and Younis Khan, who fell for 127 when he was lbw to Stuart Broad, laid the platform for a hefty lead for Pakistan. By lunch they had reached 295 for three against England, a lead of 250, with Azhar undefeated on 115.
