Duo ruled out of Germany clash

The England stars Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard will miss Wednesday's friendly against Germany, but captain John Terry is declared fit.

The Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will miss England's friendly against Germany in Berlin on Wednesday with a rib injury.

WATFORD, ENGLAND // The injured England midfielders Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard will miss Wednesday's international friendly against Germany, but captain John Terry has been declared fit. All three were examined by the England team doctors today after being ordered to report to the team's training base north of London. The England coach Fabio Capello wanted Gerrard assessed despite Liverpool saying yesterday that their captain would be out for seven to 10 days with a leg muscle injury.

He played the whole of Liverpool's 2-0 win at Bolton on Saturday, where he picked up the injury. The Chelsea and England captain Terry limped off on Saturday with a foot injury during Chelsea's 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion, but looks to have sufficiently recovered and will lead the Three Lions out in Berlin. "Steven has a groin injury, Frank has a rib injury. Both were scanned this morning and have now been sent back to their clubs for further treatment," the FA said.

"John Terry successfully came through a full training session this morning and is expected to be fit for the game in Berlin." Midfielders Jimmy Bullard of Fulham and Scott Parker of West Ham have been called into the squad as possible replacements. Capello's plans have already been hit by the withdrawal of strikers Wayne Rooney and Emile Heskey, the defender Rio Ferdinand, the leftback Ashley Cole, the midfielders Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves and the backup goalkeeper Joe Hart.
