Arrogate underlined his status as the world’s highest-rated horse by scooping up the US$10 million (Dh36.7m) Dubai World Cup with ease.
The Unbridled’s Song colt under Mike Smith came from the back of the field to run down Gun Runner and Neolithic for the United States of America to fill in the 1-2-3 spots in the dirt race over 2,000 metres at Meydan Racecourse.
Mickael Barzalona on Long River set the early pace before Florent Geroux took up the running from the second last bend. Smith worked his way up with Arrogate and had the race firmly in his control on the home stretch.
It was a matter of who would finish second behind him. Gun Runner came best from the chasing pack to finish ahead of Neolithic, but they were both quite a long way behind Arrogate. Bob Baffert’s charge took his record to seven wins from eight starts.
