Japan notched its first victory of the evening when Vivlos came with a late run under Joao Moreira to clinch the US$6 million (Dh22m) Group 1 Dubai Turf run over 1,800 metres on the turf at Meydan Racecourse.
The Deep Impact filly came with a smooth run from the outside to win by half a length from Heshem, ridden by Gregory Benoist, with Godolphin’s Ribchester under William Buick another half a length away in third.
Ribchester raced prominently and looked like a winner until Heshem got past him 100m from the winning post, but they had no answer to the late challenge from Vivlos.
It is the second time in two years the Dubai Turf has gone to Japan after Ryan Moore steered Real Steel to victory 12 months ago.
