LONDON // Stephen Maguire came out on top in a thrilling battle of the Glaswegian Scots when he won the last four frames to go through to the quarter finals of the Masters at Wembley Arena yesterday. Maguire, the world No 2, won the last four frames after former world champion Dott had taken a 5-2 lead and looked a certain winner until too many mistakes crept into his game. Dott had led for the first time after five frames when he knocked in a break of 106, which followed Maguire's 114 in frame three.

Further breaks of 37 and 36 (frame six) and a 51 (frame seven) left Dott in sight of the winning post but as Maguire battled his way back his rival floundered badly. After winning frame eight, Maguire fired in successive breaks of 49 and 63 then left Dott snookered after breaking off in the decider. Dott failed to find an escape and Maguire went back to the table to construct a match winning 68 to win 6-5 and set up a quarter-final against Scot Stephen Hendry or the Australian Neil Robertson.
