Capitals crash to nine-wicket defeat on Saturday

MUMBAI INDIANS RATINGS: Quinton de Kock – 7. Played on when facing his compatriot Nortje, having made 26, but contributed in the field with sharp glovework. Sportzpics for BCCI

Ishan Kishan – 9. Drove Rabada for an 87m six over extra cover. Finished the game by putting Nortje into the second tier. Sportzpics for BCCI

Suryakumar Yadav – 8. Exceptional in the field, then played a neat little cameo with the bat that included a one-bounce, upper cut four off Nortje. Sportzpics for BCCI

Saurabh Tiwary – 5. Rarely spotted in the field, and not required to bat either – but at least he could celebrate a win. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kieron Pollard – 6. Not needed to bat, did not bowl himself, and dropped a catch, but he infused his side with so much confidence with his leadership. Sportzpics for BCCI

Krunal Pandya – 8. No wickets of his own, but three overs for 13 was good, and his fielding was great. Two boundary catches, including a fine running one to get Ashwin. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jayant Yadav – 7. Played his role in arresting Delhi’s progress at the start with some steady overs of off-spin in the power play. Sportzpics for BCCI

Nathan Coulter-Nile – 6. Overshadowed by his pace colleagues, and only needed for two overs, but he still picked up Hetmyer’s wicket. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rahul Chahar – 7. Maybe not as spectacular as the quicks, but just 24 runs conceded, plus the wicket of Iyer, represented a good day out. Sportzpics for BCCI

Trent Boult – 8. Between him and Bumrah, Mumbai’s pace attack is irresistible. This time, the New Zealander started the job, and Bumrah finished it. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jasprit Bumrah – 9.5. Three for 17, and a run out off his last ball to ensure the 20th over of the Delhi innings went for just three. Exceptional, which is standard for him. Sportzpics for BCCI

DELHI CAPITALS RATINGS: Prithvi Shaw – 4. Brought back in for Rahane, but the break did not help his form at all. Ten from 11 before falling to an ugly swipe off Boult. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shikhar Dhawan – 2. This tournament has been feast or famine for Dhawan. A brace of tons has been followed by six, and two ducks. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shreyas Iyer – 4. The pressure of his side’s capitulation has shown in the captain’s batting. His 25 off 29 balls was a struggle. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rishabh Pant – 3. His crawl to 21 from 25 balls even included a life, when he was spared by Pollard. Looks nothing like the player who has thrilled in the past. Sportzpics for BCCI

Marcus Stoinis – 4. Had no answers to peak Bumrah, as he edged a drive behind to De Kock, who needed two grabs to take it. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shimron Hetmyer – 4. Delhi might be questioning whether they have got their money’s worth from their overseas star. He holed out when they needed him to stay till the end here. Sportzpics for BCCI

Ravichandran Ashwin – 7. Bar an avalanche of wickets, he could not have done much more with the ball. Four overs for 18 runs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Harshal Patel – 5. On the receiving end of an errant decision when batting, then bowled one loose over with the ball. Sportzpics for BCCI

Pravin Dubey – 6. At least the leg-spinner made an exciting start, with a stumping appeal off his first ball, and an lbw denied on review off his second. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kagiso Rabada – 4. His side’s downturn is even having an effect on their star man. After 25 games in a row where he took wickets, he has now gone two in a row without. Sportzpics for BCCI

Anrich Nortje – 4. Like Rabada, he seems to have lost his way lately. Still sends it down rapidly, but Kishan helped it onwards to the boundaries just as fast. Sportzpics for BCCI

Delhi Capitals’ pursuit of a playoff place will go down to the final game after they were trounced by nine wickets by table-toppers Mumbai Indians in Dubai.

Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah took six wickets between them as Delhi were kept to 110-9 from their 20 overs, before Ishan Kishan, who hit 72 not out, made light work of the run-chase.

The defending champions were already through to the knockout phase even before a ball was bowled, but Delhi are labouring to make it there with them.

They looked to be all but there when they won seven of their first nine matches this season.

Their form has faltered since, though, with four defeats in a row meaning they now have to win their final league match, against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday, if they are to advance.
