CHENNAI SUPER KINGS RATINGS: Sam Curran – 4. The merit behind his promotion to the top of the order has to be questioned, as he took 25 balls to make 22. His confidence with the ball and in the field looked sapped, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shane Watson – 4. Within the space of three balls he had a row with Tyagi, hit him for two fours, then got out to him. Sportzpics for BCCI

Ambati Rayudu – 4. Spared by DRS after being given out lbw to Gopal on 12, only to fall to Tewatia after adding just one more run. Sportzpics for BCCI

MS Dhoni – 5. Barely played a shot in anger, then misjudged a second run to Archer’s bullet throw after the fast bowler had misfielded. Held a good catch to dismiss Samson. Sportzpics for BCCI

Ravindra Jadeja – 7. The only Chennai batsman to bat with any visible urgency, as he made 35 not out from 30 balls. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kedhar Jadhav – 3. The nightmare continues. Could barely lay a bat on it when his side needed quick runs, as he made four from seven balls. Sportzpics for BCCI

Piyush Chawla – 3. He conceded as many – 32 – in three overs as the opposition leg-spinners went for in eight combined, and went wicketless, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Deepak Chahar – 8. Again he bowled his full quota of overs in one go at the start of the innings, and he gave his side a chance with the wickets of Stokes and Samson. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shardul Thakur – 6. Did not pose the threat of his senior pace bowling colleagues Chahar and Hazlewood, as he ended with none for 34. Sportzpics for BCCI

Josh Hazlewood – 7. Did all he could do to bring about an unlikely win, with a strong new-ball showing with Chahar. So close to getting his Australia teammate Smith lbw. Sportzpics for BCCI

RAJASTHAN ROYALS RATINGS: Ben Stokes – 6. It still feels as though he is getting his practice in on the hoof, after his late arrival. Three overs for 27, and 19 with the bat, but lacking pizazz. Sportzpics for BCCI

Robin Uthappa – 4. Wandering all over the crease when he might have been better served knuckling down after Stokes’ dismissal, and he was out limply. Sportzpics for BCCI

Sanju Samson – 5. He was neat and tidy with the gloves, but fell for a duck with the bat when he edged Chahar down the leg-side to Dhoni. Sportzpics for BCCI

Steve Smith – 6. Lucky DRS showed he had feathered an inside edge when otherwise plumb lbw to Hazlewood. Very much the junior partner in the match-winning stand. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jos Buttler – 9. Appeared to be playing a different game, on a different pitch, to everyone else, as he made 70 not out from 48 balls. Held a fine catch, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rahul Tewatia – 7. Still manages to be a hero, even when he has a bit-part role. His one for 18 was a great effort seeing as he appeared to injure his left ankle right at the start of it. Sportzpics for BCCI

Riyan Parag - 4. Did not bat or bowl or take a catch. At least was part of the winning team. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jofra Archer – 7. A real mixed bag: typical brilliance with the ball, with one for 20 from four, but a shocker in the field – yet still picked up a run out. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shreyas Gopal – 8. Barely looks a wicket-taking threat, yet was tough to get away. Bowled within the line of the stumps, and took one for 14 from four. Sportzpics for BCCI

Ankit Rajpoot – 4. Did not do a great deal to earn his appearance fee, as he bowled just one over with the new ball for eight runs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kartik Tyagi – 7. The youngster continues to impress, as he won his feisty exchange with Watson, and hit some impressive bowling speeds. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten half-century as Rajasthan Royals kept their playoff hopes alive with an easy win over Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi.

Buttler and Steve Smith shared an unbroken stand worth 98 as they hauled in a victory target of just 126 with seven wickets and 15 balls to spare.

Chennai’s batting effort was entirely featureless as they ambled to 125-5 off 20 overs, with Rajasthan’s leg-spinners – Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia – taking two for 32 between them from eight.

The win puts Rajasthan up to fifth in the table, two points behind Kolkata Knight Riders, albeit having played a game more.
