CRICKET TOURNAMENTS WITH THE BIGGEST PRIZE MONEY: 1) Cricket World Cup ($4 million). The 2019 World Cup had a $10m total prize pot, with champions England taking home $4m after their Super Over win against New Zealand at Lord’s. The Black Caps could console themselves with a cool $2m for finishing second. AFP
2) Indian Premier League ($2.43m). Franchise cricket’s biggest league unsurprisingly dwarfs all its rivals when it comes to the cash prize it offers the winners. It also exceeds two of the ICC’s blue chip events. Photo: IPL League
3) Test World Championship ($1.6m). India got $800,000 for finishing runners up to New Zealand in the first Test championship final. So half the amount the winners got, and a fraction of what many of their players get as IPL salaries. Reuters
4) T20 World Cup ($1.6m). England’s white-ball cricketers have been in the money in recent times. Those survivors from the 2019 ODI win at home were able to top up their bank accounts further still after taking the T20 title at the MCG last year. PA
5) Bangladesh Premier League ($850,000). Shakib Al Hasan may reckon he could do a better job running the BPL. But the prize fund on offer for winning Bangladesh’s top competition is still an enviable amount. AFP
6) DP World International League T20 ($700,000). The two sides who take part in Sunday’s final at Dubai International Stadium will be playing for $700,000. Currently Desert Vipers and Gulf Giants fill the top two places in the league. CREIMAS
7) Pakistan Super League ($320,000). Many would argue the PSL is the second best T20 competition in the world, after the all-consuming IPL. The 2023 season will start shortly after the ILT20 concludes in the UAE. AFP
8) Big Bash League ($311,500). Perth Scorchers took the title in front of a packed crowd at Optus Stadium at the weekend. They won Aus $500,000 for beating Brisbane Heat in the final. AFP
9) T20 Blast ($210,000). England is unique for having created a rival to its own main T20 competition. The T20 Blast, played by counties rather than city-based franchises, has a similar prize fund to that on offer in The Hundred. PA
10) The Hundred ($180,000). The winners of the men’s and women’s competitions in the 100-ball competition, which is played in sets of five balls rather than overs of six, earn equal prize money. PA
