DUBAI // The International Cricket Council (ICC), has decided to keep its headquarters in Dubai instead of relocating to London or Mumbai.
Cricket's governing body ended months of speculation yesterday when it announced it has decided to continue its stay in the UAE where it has been stationed for five years.
In October 2009, the idea of moving from Dubai Sports City back to London, its former base, was considered. David Morgan, the then president, was keen for the organisation to return to "its historical home in London".
When Sherad Pawar took over the presidency of the ICC in July, a move to Mumbai was expected. But, following a two-day board meeting in Dubai, the ICC has decided that it will remain in the emirate.
"This provides welcome certainty for the staff and I am personally delighted that this matter has finally been resolved," Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, said. The ICC moved to the UAE in 2005 from Lord's in England, where it had been based since its formation in 1909.
