MONACO // Defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy will play his last game for Shakhtar Donetsk against Barcelona before joining the Catalan side after the European Super Cup final at the Stade Louis II in Monaco tonight. Mircea Lucescu, whose side won the Uefa Cup final last season to set up the annual curtain-raiser to the European club season against the European champions, confirmed the deal was all but done at his pre-match press conference yesterday.

The player also said he was looking forward to the future at the Camp Nou. "The deal is done now, I think," Lucescu said. "The condition was that he played for us against Barcelona. It's a great honour for Shakhtar that after winning the Uefa Cup, one of the top clubs in Europe want to sign him. "He is only 22, nearly 23, a great talent and he will develop very positively at Barcelona. "When Barca asks for a player it is very difficult to say no, but it is a win-win situation for everyone, the clubs and the player. The only one who loses is the coach as I have to find a new system and build a new team."

Chygrynskiy, who impressed Barca when the two sides met in the same group of last season's Champions League, said: "It is going to be a special game for me, but I am a professional footballer and I will do all I can for Shakhtar in my last match. "I will put out of my mind the move to Barcelona until after the game, that is a different story. But all I am thinking about now is the game." Spanish media have reported the European champions will pay ?25 million (Dh130m) for the Ukrainian, who helped Shakhtar beat Werder Bremen in the Uefa Cup final in May.

Barca coach Pep Guardiola, who led his side to a treble last season of Champions League and a Spanish league and cup double, added: "We will speak about the transfer after the game. But it is very important we win it. It is a very big final for us, and it is not every day you play in the Super Cup final." Guardiola's side have already won one piece of silverware this season by lifting the Spanish Super Cup pre-season trophy and if they win tonight and then triumph in the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi in December, they will hold six trophies. "That would be something very special," said Guardiola, "but first we must concentrate on this match."

The only concern for Guardiola was on hearing that the pitch was not in the best of condition. "I hope that is not the case," he said. "They have had long enough to prepare the pitch and it should be in perfect condition for a match like this." Guardiola said he would field a strong team, despite Barca's Primera Liga season opener against Sporting Gijon on Monday. "Of course we will field a strong team. Victory is never guaranteed," he said. "We have to be humble. We're talking about Uefa Cup champions here."

Why it pays to compare

A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.

Route 1: bank transfer

The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.

Total cost: Dh567.25 - around 2.9 per cent of the total amount

Total received: €4,670.30

Route 2: online platform

The UAE bank’s charge for sending Dh20,000 to a UK dirham-denominated account was Dh2.10. The exchange rate margin cost was Dh60, plus a Dh12 fee.

Total cost: Dh74.10, around 0.4 per cent of the transaction

Total received: €4,756

The UAE bank transfer was far quicker – around two to three working days, while the online platform took around four to five days, but was considerably cheaper. In the online platform transfer, the funds were also exposed to currency risk during the period it took for them to arrive.
