Team news and statistics ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg between Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid on Tuesday May 3.

First leg result

Wednesday, April 27 in Madrid

Atletico 1 (Saul Niguez 11) Bayern 0

Key battle

Douglas Costa v Filipe Luis

In the final 15 minutes of the first leg, Bayern had plenty of joy getting in behind the full-back as Atletico tired. Costa has pace to burn and it will only take one lapse in concentration from Luis to let him in. Frustrating Costa will be key to Atletico keeping a clean sheet.

Form

Bayern Munich

Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich had to wait to have their historic fourth consecutive Bundesliga title confirmed after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Munchengladbach on Saturday. Thomas Muller’s first-half header was cancelled out by Andre Hahn’s superb second-half strike for Gladbach. Bayern are away to mid-table Ingolstadt next Saturday, then host relegated Hanover on the final day of the season in a fortnight.

There was some good news for Bayern as Jerome Boateng started his first game since January.

Atletico

Antoine Griezmann came off the bench to score the winner as Atletico maintained their La Liga title hopes with a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano as manager Diego Simeone made seven changes from the side that started the first leg against Bayern. Atletico remain level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga with just two games remaining.

Team news

Bayern should be fresh as Guardiola decided to rest Xabi Alonso, Javi Martinez, Philipp Lahm, David Alaba, Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcantara, Douglas Costa and Robert Lewandowski in the 1-1 draw against Munchengladbach. Veteran French winger Franck Ribery is the only major fitness doubt. Meanwhile, Diego Godin is set to return to Atletico’s backline. Godin, a key player for Atletico, and winger Yannick Carrasco were both cleared to play on Sunday after recovering from injuries. Simeone also rested most of his first-choice players over the weekend, starting only four players from his line-up that beat Bayern.
