LOS ANGELES // Jason Jaffray scored his first goal of the season to help the Vancouver Canucks end their slump with a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
Jaffray scored in the second period with assists from Jannik Hansen and Darcy Hordichuk as the Canucks (15-10-2) ended a four-game losing run. It was the third career goal for Jaffray who has played in three games this season and was recalled from the American Hockey League on Nov 30.
Kevin Bieksa's power-play goal in the first period helped Vancouver take early control over its Northwest Division opponent before Mikko Koivu replied 27 seconds into the second period. Niklas Backstrom had 29 saves for the Wild, who fell to 15-9-1 with the loss.
Ales Hemsky scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shoot-out as the Edmonton Oilers escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Marc-Antoine Pouliot, the captain Ethan Moreau and Andrew Cogliano all netted in the first period to give the Oilers a 3-0 advantage. The Kings responded with four unanswered goals in the second with Michal Handzus, Anze Kopitar, the former Oiler Jarret Stoll and Alexander Frolov on target before Dustin Penner's strike levelled the contest.
Mike Cammalleri scored in overtime to give the Calgary Flames a 4-3 comeback victory over the St Louis Blues.
The captain Jarome Iginla and David Moss netted power-play goals early in the third period to erase a 3-1 deficit for the Flames.
