Australia No 8 David Pocock will miss the rest of the Test series with England through injury.

Pocock was forced off in the 69th minute of the 39-28 defeat against Eddie Jones’s men in Brisbane and scans later confirmed a fractured eye socket.

The 28-year-old back-row has missed just one Test since 2014 and one of the Wallabies’ most influential players will be sorely missed as they attempt to claw their way back into the series in Melbourne.

Pocock will not require surgery but has been sidelined for four to six weeks and will remain with the squad.

He Tweeted: “Gutted to be ruled out of the rest of the #AUSvENG series with a fractured eye socket. Disappointing but these things happen.”

Eddie Jones characterises England win over Australia as 'we didn't play well'

Australia have not called up a replacement for the back-rower with Ben McCaknab abd Wycliff Palu already in the squad.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika told the Sydney Morning Herald: "He played very well last night. We'll just see how we pan out. We got the final confirmation this morning but we'll just wait and see how the day pans out around what we might take into next week's game.

“We’ll have a look at some options that we have. We have the option of staying with what we’ve got or if we want to bring in almost a like for like guy with Liam Gill.

“There’s options that have got experience in the front row, so we’re fortunate there but at the same time disappointed to lose a player of David’s quality.”
