Ashes second Test: Session by session, Day 2

An eventful second day at the Lord's saw 16 wickets fall in three sessions. Here is how:

Morning session

England 361 all out. Australia 42 for one at lunch

Ryan Harris has missed out on much since his Test career started because of injuries. He made the most of his chance at Lord's though, with five wickets. England repeated Australia's trick from the first Test, as Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad added valuable runs for the last wicket. Shane Watson, below, flattered to deceive after an impressive start when Tim Bresnan trapped him lbw on the stroke of lunch. The opener burned one of Australia's reviews in the process.

Afternoon session

Australia 96 for seven at tea

"All over Australia like a cheap suit," was Shane Warne's succinct analysis of England's dominance of the afternoon session. The home side did not play spectacular cricket, in conditions which should have favoured batsmen, too. Yet the Australians imploded in the sort of fashion many forecast they would when they left their homeland for this tour. Swann was the biggest beneficiary of Australia's impotence as he took three for 27.

Evening session

Australia 128 all out. England 31 for three at stumps

Swann started the day with some fun with the bat, a blow on the forearm, and some physio treatment. He finished it with his name being written on the home team honours board, having ended with five for 44. Australia looked like a rabble with the bat, but their bowlers are courageous. Peter Siddle took three wickets for four runs off five overs. England might seem to be in a mess at 31 for three overnight. But that still represents a lead of 264.
