Antti Raanta’s saves help Blackhawks to shutout win

First NHL shutout for goaltender after he makes 26 saves against Los Angeles Kings. Plus other news from the league.

CHICAGO // Antti Raanta made 26 saves in his first NHL shutout, and Brandon Saad scored as the Chicago Blackhawks beat Los Angeles 1-0 on Monday night and sent the Kings to their first three-game losing streak in a year.

Raanta improved to 10-1-3 while bouncing back from one of his worst performances. He allowed two late goals in Chicago’s 6-5 shoot-out loss at St Louis on Saturday.

Saad netted the only goal in this one in the first period. Chicago, who lead the NHL with 158 goals, played their lowest-scoring game since a 2-1 shoot-out win at Dallas on November 29.

Los Angeles’ Martin Jones made 29 saves in his second straight loss after beginning his career with eight consecutive wins, tying the NHL record.

The Kings are on their first three-game slide since dropping the opening three games of last season in January.

Patrick Kane, the Chicago forward, had a career-best point streak snapped at 14 games. He had eight goals and 17 assists in the surge.

Nashville Predators 6, Detroit Red Wings 4

NASHVILLE // Colin Wilson had two goals and an assist, and Mike Fisher scored a goal and helped set up two others in Nashville’s victory over Detroit.

Fisher has three goals and three assists in Nashville’s past two games. Craig Smith, Nick Spaling, and Roman Josi also scored.

Justin Abdelkader, Pavel Datsyuk, Drew Miller, and Patrick Eaves scored for the Red Wings, who have lost two of three.

The teams combined for five goals in a back-and-forth third period, but Nashville never relinquishing the lead.

Wilson put the Predators ahead 1:54 into the game with a wrist shot from the high slot that beat goalie Jimmy Howard on the glove side. It was the first shot on Howard, who had been out with a knee injury since December 10.

Ottawa Senators 3, Washington Capitals 1

OTTAWA // Kyle Turris’ goal helped Ottawa beat Washington and earn its first winning streak in 51 days. The Senators have won three straight at home for the first time this season.

Mika Zibanejad and Clarke MacArthur, with an empty-net goal, also scored for Ottawa (17-18-7). Craig Anderson stopped 34 shots. He made 14 saves in the second period and 11 more in the third.

Joel Ward scored the lone goal for the Capitals (20-15-5), who have lost back-to-back games. Phillip Grubauer, in his fourth straight start, made 35 saves.

With just over two minutes remaining, Anderson made a great glove save on Eric Fehr to preserve the lead.
