In reference to your editorial (Preserving our tangible identity, January 17), old things seems to have little value for us here. Look at some of the old countries in Europe and how they have preserved thousands of old buildings. Preserve your culture and heritage while you can.
How about preserving old guesthouses, such as the one in Liwa, on the Al Ain-Abu Dhabi road and the one in Ghayyathi. These are not mere buildings. They show a way of life, of welcoming desert travellers to a place of safety and rest.

I believe Hamdan Centre, Hamed Center and the Eldorado Cinema building are some of the buildings that need to be preserved.

I love the bus terminal. It was where I first set foot in Abu Dhabi.

Moving home is a tough task
Moving home is ridiculously difficult here (Your Money blog: Dh13,000 bill to move from one apartment to another in the same Abu Dhabi building, January 15).
Agency fees in particular are a joke with the usually unprofessional service you receive.

Oil firms need trained people
I read an article some time ago stating that the oil industry's biggest recruitment problem is that there are no new people being trained in the industry (Oil and gas has itself to blame if millennials are not prepared to work in the industry, January 16).
The oil industry only needs to train about 200 people per year, so there is no formal training route available. Most of the people currently working and reaching retirement age started in the industry without training and were trained on the job.
Oil companies, due to cost cutting over many years, stopped training new recruits and now they have backed themselves into a corner.
