Your story Long spell of wintry conditions in UAE has retailers beaming (February 27) will probably make all your Canadian readers giggle. Thermal underwear? I don't even wear jeans in this country as it's too hot. Electric heaters? A toaster is as close to an electric heater as I would ever get.

My father would say: “Put a sweater on and run around a bit, you’ll warm up.” A bit of Canadian advice: drop by Tim Hortons for a double-double to thaw out.

Owen Neale, Dubai

It’s funny how we find these temperatures cold.

Carol Barber, Abu Dhabi

I almost choked on my tea. Electric heaters? Thermal underwear? It isn’t that cold. If ever there was a perfect example of panic buying, this is it.

Lisa Justice, Dubai

Your weather report UAE weather: heavy rain in Dubai with more expected across the country (February 27) reminded me of 1982 or 1983, when it rained heavily for 10 days. There was no drainage on the streets. It was a nightmare.

Josie Gonzalez Nabti, Abu Dhabi

It reminds me of January 2008, when Dubai was flooded and it rained for two weeks straight. I remember it because we were new in the city, looking for accommodation.

Justice served in Obaida case

I refer to the news report Obaida killer to be executed, Dubai's highest court rules (February 28).

I hope that this fair sentence provides Obaida Al Aqrabawi’s family with closure, and shows the residents of this country and others that such criminals will not be spared.

Ela Jayne, Abu Dhabi

Excellent punishment. There is no place on this planet for those who cause harm to children. May this little angel rest in peace.

Robert Bradley, Dubai

Christians in Egypt need help

I refer to the story Christians flee Sinai after ISIL threats and killings (February 27). These Christians are a soft and easy target. ISIL will be looking for more targets like them as it loses face and territory in Iraq and Syria, in order to try to demonstrate that it is still "in the game".

The Egyptians need help during this time, both militarily and by the cutting off of financial support and funding to ISIL.

Now is the time to tighten the noose on this movement, which uses religion as a justification for barbarity and crime.

The game is up for ISIL.

Perfect job for residents

The story on community policing was great (Community police, the new sheriffs in Abu Dhabi, February 26).

I will sign up if this project is launched in Dubai.

All I need is a front and back GoPro in my car and I would like to join the highway patrol to help with the interesting patterns of driving.

Tanya Milbourne, Dubai

Isn’t this our perfect job? I must sign up if the concept comes to Dubai.

Leading by example in UAE

When leaders of a nation respect and love their society, then society reciprocates (National Service is 'an honour' for UAE youth, Sheikh Mohammed says, February 27). Our leaders and society reflect this fact.
