The assassination of Russian ambassador Andrei Karlov in Turkey on Monday was condemned worldwide. On Twitter, many agreed that this was not the right action to take to help Syrians who are living under the regime of Bashar Al Assad.
No human can allow such barbaric acts of violence, many tweeters agreed. Muslims expressed their concerns that Islam was being used wrongfully way to support extremists values.
One tweeted: “Quran 5:32. If anyone killed an innocent person, it would be as if he killed the whole of mankind.”
Another tweet warned that even though the man who shot the ambassador in Ankara shouted “Allahu Akbar” this doesn’t make him a good Muslim, because Islam is truly a religion of peace
Media personalities and politicians sent their heartfelt prayers to the victim’s family.
Britain’s foreign secretary Boris Johnson tweeted: “Shocked to hear of despicable murder of Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey. My thoughts are with his family. I condemn this cowardly attack.”
Samantha Power, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, tweeted: “Strongly condemn savage attack on Russia Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov and several other people. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
