The survey says: car parking

It is a challenge for the authorities to provide enough parking spaces in our cities given the high rates of car ownership. Many residential and commercial buildings don’t have enough off-street spaces to cater for all their tenants, so on-street parking is at a premium.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the situation has improved since paid parking was introduced. In Abu Dhabi, Mawaqif has been credited with bringing some sense of order to streets and public car parks.

With this in mind, we asked TaskSpotting users about their experiences with parking.

TaskSpotting describes itself as the region’s only advocate marketing platform and pitches our questions to its app community who typically engage with brands to create content, spread awareness and share feedback.

The focus of our questions was the availability and price of parking. Four-fifths of the 5,000 respondents said they often had trouble finding a parking space, but more than half of them said there were enough parking spaces in their neighbourhood.

While 84 per cent said parking fines were too high, only 20 per cent said they did not understand the rules applying to off-street parking.
