The one with a reunion

The excitement on social media was palpable yesterday when it was announced that the cast of the hit 1994 - 2004 sitcom Friends will film a new two-hour special. But it won't be the reunion that many fans are hoping for.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will all appear in a tribute to veteran TV director James Burrows to air on America’s NBC network on February 21. But NBC cannot yet guarantee that all six actors will be in the same room at the same time.

Nevertheless, the reunion gives us a chance to revisit what was arguably the last big “water cooler” show – one that everybody watched at the same time and discussed at work the next day. These days, people watch television shows differently, at their own pace.

While no conclusion to the Friends' story would suit everybody, Aniston's role in the Emirates adverts might inspire the writers. Perhaps the other friends could join Rachel and settle in Dubai.
