Light pollution has serious consequences. From the blue light of your smartphone limiting the brain’s ability to wind down at night to the harsh light of a brightly lit street, we are confronted with more light pollution than ever before. A new study suggests that Singapore, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have the most light polluted skies in the world. On the other extreme, Chad, Madagascar and Central African Republic have the darkest skies.
Every week there is a new study warning us about the warming of the planet or the adverse effects of popular foods. When it comes to light pollution, there are real concerns connected to our sleep patterns that can affect other parts of our life like diet.
As with most challenges in life, the solution to this issue requires balance. After all, properly lit city streets are safe streets. We can be informed about our exposure to light and maybe think twice about staring at our smartphones before sleeping. It is all about moderation.
