I appreciate Scotland's gesture towards refugees. It is showing the rest of the world how to welcome Syrian refugees with open arms (Scotland rolls out the red carpet for Syrian refugees, November 30).
The migrants need to be greeted with a smile and simple courtesy like everyone else. They deserve respect and kindness. Refugees are victims of brutality and deserve compassion.

It’s important to remember all of our heroes
Regarding the article Emiratis and expats alike stand still to remember UAE heroes (December 2), we experience a similar thing in the UK. On Remembrance Day, held every year, we observe a two-minute silence with formal ceremonies all over the country to remember the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us to live freely. My father taught me to respect this tradition when I was about 4 years old and I do it to this day. It is good for a nation to remember this.

It’s a very important occasion. These soldiers will always be remembered as heroes who sacrificed their lives for the unity of Arabs.

Etihad’s new advert is apt
Etihad's new advert comprising a four-minute patriotic music video performed by the Emirati singer Mehad Hamad should have been the airline's main campaign (Etihad brings Emirati identity with new ad campaign to celebrate National Day, November 30). The international audience needs to see the charm, beauty, heritage and culture of this region.

Exemplary spirit of patriotism
I was amazed to read the article Martyr father is forever a hero in eyes of daughter who never even got to meet him (November 28). A 90-year-old man's love for his country has been summarised in one sentence: "I always encourage them on patriotism and I would never ever mind to lose all my sons for the UAE." Hats off.

A great leader is one who is with his people and treats them as members of his family (Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed offers condolences to martyr's family, November 28).
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed is one such leader who mourns with the family of soldiers. I really admire him.

How to get a right answer
Khalaf Al Habtoor, in his opinion piece I was wrong about Donald Trump ... and I don't mind admitting it (November 27) says: "There is something the US media has chosen to bury. The only Middle Eastern-looking people known to have been high-fiving on that terrible day [September 11] were five Israelis working for a removal company, as reported at the time by ABC News and Fox News."
Americans have chosen to bury this issue, yet now with Mr Trump’s comment the media has been forced to report it because they can’t help but “discredit” Mr Trump. Ward Cunningham’s Law states: “The best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question, it’s to post the wrong answer.”

I do hope that Donald Trump gets nominated as the Republican candidate in the US 2016 elections.
He is probably more divisive than Jeremy Corbyn is within the UK’s Labour Party and, just as Mr Corbyn’s leadership on the opposition benches of the UK Parliament will ensure that there will be no Labour government in 2020 (if he remains leader), Mr Trump’s nomination as the Republican Party candidate will ensure a further four years for the Democrats, so go for it Mr Trump.
