Raise it high in the sky

When the Flag Day initiative started in November last year, people in the UAE – Emiratis and expatriates alike – showed immediate enthusiasm. Thousands of UAE flags were hoisted at homes and at government offices across the country, some of them big enough to cover an entire building.

This year Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, used social media to urge people to celebrate Flag Day, which happens tomorrow to mark the anniversary of Sheikh Khalifa becoming the president in 2004.

Because the flag is a symbol of the UAE and its unity, those who raise it reflect the respect they feel for this country and their pride in its many considerable achievements over a very short period of time.

Have your flag ready to fly tomorrow. And what is it about the UAE that makes you feel proud, grateful or respectful? Let us know.
