The dream result for motorsport fans has come true: after 18 Formula One races spanning eight months and six continents, the drivers' championship will be determined by the final race in Abu Dhabi. The double points on offer on November 23 means Mercedes team mates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton each have the chance of being crowned as the 2014 champion.

While the set-up of the Yas Marina Circuit and the day-night timing of the race means Abu Dhabi would still be a compelling event even if the fate of the championship were not at stake, there is an added degree of excitement knowing that fractions of a second in pace and the vicissitudes of fate will determine the series winner.

This is something of a double-edged sword, with the double points also meaning that Rosberg, with five wins, can overtake Hamilton, who finished first twice as often. But that is the nature of Formula One. Bring on November 23 for a race we will all remember.
