News that industry rivals Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) have patched up at the former's stepsister's nuptials is great for the industry (Salman Khan's sister to wed, November 17).
Salman has long been friends with the other Khan, Aamir, and though he has starred alongside Aamir and SRK in earlier films, Aamir and SRK have never shared screen space.
With box-office takings now public knowledge and $1 billion and $2 billion films the industry benchmark, it will take a bold director to bring the trio together in one movie.

Photography rules in the UAE make sense
I refer to the news item Snappers advised to learn laws on security (November 20). The no-photography policy is not unique in the UAE. It is also relevant in Hollywood where actors, singers and other performers live.
In my humble opinion, the restrictions imposed by the UAE in terms of where pictures can and cannot be taken are sensible and valid.

There are reasons why we shouldn't take photos at certain places in the UAE (Detained American found not guilty by Abu Dhabi court, family says, November 18).
We should all obey the country’s rules. It’s because of these rules that life here is so smooth and comfortable.

We need to know the laws
The article Know the law when it comes to expat divorce in the UAE (November 17) is really helpful. It seems that an errant husband can make things difficult for his spouse if the Dubai dream starts to sour.
Most expatriates in the UAE are fortunate to be able to enjoy the benefits of life, but they need to be aware of the legal implications if things don’t work out.

A fictional view of the region
Faisal Al Yafai's opinion article A non-nuclear Iran is still a serious threat to the Gulf (November 19) presents a fictional view of the Middle East. For example, it ignores the fact that the US supported Saddam Hussein in his attack on Iran, where he used chemical weapons against Iranians.
As for Yemen, the Houthis are doing what the American-supported government cannot do. They are fighting Al Qaeda and giving the conquered territories to the government.
As for Syria, it is some countries in the region that have created the mess, leading to the emergence of ISIL. Iran is helping the legitimate government of Syria.

Living on a boat a good solution
I liked Martin Mueller-Karera’s idea of living on a houseboat (Expatriate casts off expensive rent, November 21). The way rents are going up, I am sure many people will have to look for alternatives such as this.

I have a friend who bought a second-hand boat and moors it at a gorgeous, intimate club in Dubai. It’s not huge, but life is great there.

Double murder unjustifiable
The news was terribly sad (Tears and anger pour for murdered Miss Honduras and her sister, November 21).
Maria Jose Alvarado and her sister Sofia did not deserve to be killed mercilessly over such a trivial issue. Sofia’s boyfriend could have cut off ties or expressed his dislike with regard to her dancing with another man instead of shooting her dead along with her younger sister.
I hope he is severely punished for this heinous act.
