Ferry service is brilliant

Regarding the story Newly launched Abu Dhabi ferry service plans expansion (October 27), I travelled in the water taxi last week. It was light and bright, and the ride was smooth. The seating is more comfortable and spacious than most airlines – a brilliant way to get around Abu Dhabi.

Ali McDonald, Abu Dhabi

It’s highly recommended. You get a different view of so much of the city when you travel by the water taxi.

Katherine Kenning, UK

This ferry service is great, especially from the touristm point of view. I wish the local people could also use it as a transport, which would be cheaper than a taxi. Perhaps the authorities could think over it.

Mikey Bauer, Abu Dhabi

How about a ferry service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai would be great. It would save people a lot of time and money.

Adverts promote unhealthy habits among young

I refer to your editorial The case to limit junk-food adverts (October 27). While I don't disagree with this, could we then also stop advertising fast cars and adverts with reckless driving as that seems to kill many too?

Ian Douglas, Dubai

Supermarkets should remove soft drinks from a child’s eye level. It’s cruel to both children and parents. I don’t have children but I can see the wandering eyes, see the coming “no”. It ensures a lifetime of unhealthy food cravings.

Hotel needs to fix few problems

I refer to the article How Yas Viceroy manager gets revved up for Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (October 27). When are they going to fix the lights? So many are broken, it no longer looks good.

Biba Husak, Abu Dhabi

Allow children to make mistakes

Children need to be free enough to enjoy the many enriching experiences here (Better to enjoy some risky play than to mollycoddle, October 27) – plays, orchestras, art galleries. All are available to enrich the curriculum delivery. Teachers, students and parents want this. Hopefully the children can enjoy these things without question. The piece is well written and timely.

UK’s new visa service helpful

The "Premium" visa service is great ('Premium visa service for UAE residents now available at UK embassy, October 21), as most people are unable to correctly fill in the online visa application form. That can sometimes lead to their application being rejected. With professional help available at a minimal cost, people will have the opportunity to get their application checked for errors and incomplete information before proceeding to submit.

Bonding through mother’s milk

The story Emirati desert tribe and expat family bonded through mother's milk (October 27) is fascinating. My mother and her sister breastfed each other's children - my first cousins and myself -when we were born, and we are like real brothers and sisters now. I do feel the bond and closeness to them and it is reciprocal.

Fawzia Halim Rahman, Dubai

Those days it was a common thing in my culture to breastfeed each other’s babies. I think it is still prevalent.
