I refer to your online story Revealed: The car-washing habits of the UAE (November 5), in which a recent survey found that UAE residents spend between Dh100 and Dh300 per month on car washing, with an average of four washes per month. I fall outside that statistic. I get mine washed once a month even though it gets filthy pretty quickly. To spend that amount of money you'd need to be getting your car washed 10 times a month, which can't be good for its paintwork.

We need to call the Texas tragedy what it is

I read the terrible news from the US (Texas governor confirms 26 dead after church shooting in Texas, November 6). These kind of acts are called terrorism when perpetrated by a Muslim. They are called gang violence or a race issue when black people are to blame. It's an immigration problem when Hispanic people commit a violent crime, but when a white person is at the centre of the trouble, it is called a mental health issue, in which the attacker was failed by a lack of support.

The zoo had to close, the animals have suffered enough

In reference to The biggest migration this side of the Serengeti (November 6). Thank goodness these poor animals, who are at the now closed Dubai Zoo, are being moved. They have suffered enough.

Few options for those struggling with healthcare issues

I write regarding your story Single mum struggles to pay for dialysis (November 5). My advice would be to look for an immediate transfer from a Fujairah work visa to an Abu Dhabi permit. That's the only option as it would give you access to mandatory health care.

Be careful when you are out celebrating

In reference to Katy Perry to roar in the new year in the capital (November 6), all I can say to all concert-goers is to be vigilant. Look out for yourself and bear in mind that there are bad guys in every big crowd. This is just a precautionary note to all party-goers, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
