Abu Dhabi’s Mushrif park, which reopened last month after two years of renovation, has more than a new look. It has been transformed into a community hub. Now, it’s open to all, not just women and children. It’s beautifully landscaped and offers welcome respite from the din of the city.
It also reflects the changing needs of the community it serves. Its new features include an amphitheatre, a cafe, a petting zoo, a botanical garden and jogging and cycling facilities. It even offers free film screenings.
So there is much to praise. But why is it apparently forbidden to bring in your own food for a picnic? This forces visitors to rely on the somewhat limited fare they can buy at the kiosks. And why does the park open only at 10am? Early risers might want to amble around its dewy tranquil surroundings. These are small problems and easy to fix. They will make Mushrif park an oasis in the city.
