I was pleased to read about the celebrations at the temple (Thousands flock to Sikh gurdwara in Dubai for Eid feast, September 25).
It demonstrates that people from diverse cultures can live in unity and complete harmony in the UAE.
These efforts made by and for the Sikh community prove that humanity rules above all.

Haj officials must learn more about pedestrian flow
I was shocked by the terrible events in Saudi Arabia (Mina stampeded claims 717 lives as Haj pilgrimage ends in tragedy, September 25)
I suggest that the authorities set up a task force to ensure safety and convenience for pilgrims right from their arrival in the country all the way through to their departure.
There are many lessons to be learnt from how big airports, such as those in Dubai and Ankara, manage millions of passengers smoothly month after month.
National guards should be deployed at full strength to regulate the flow of pilgrims in a safe and organised way.
The process should be reviewed after each Haj to ensure that improvements are being made year after year.

This is terrible news. Those people were in Mecca for a peaceful pilgrimage. I am very upset to hear that such a large number died. Name withheld by request
I pray for the victims of the Haj stampede and for the speedy recovery of the injured.

May Allah bless the souls of the martyred pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, as well as the Emirati soldiers martyred in Yemen and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed. Asyah Mel Amin, Dubai
Hopefully closed-circuit cameras at the site will help the authorities establish the reason behind this tragedy.

Planes should be kept clean
It came as a shock to read Airline passenger says cockroach landed on her face during flight to Dubai (December 26).
The airline should investigate the issue and, if her account is correct, they should compensate the woman for her unpleasant experience.
Hygiene standards inside an aircraft should never be compromised, regardless of whether it is a low -budget or full-service carrier.

Win-win as ban on maids lifted
I refer to Nepal ends ban on housemaids working in the UAE (September 23).
This is a good arrangement. Nepal needs the money and has no jobs to offer its people.
The UAE is a very good choice because there are many rules in place for overseas workers. I hope all will be well and happy for the maids from Nepal when they arrive here.

Goulding was simply great
I agree with Rob Garratt's review, Ellie Goulding captivates the hard-to-impress Dubai crowd (September 26).
Goulding was amazing. I loved her concert, even though it was quite short.

“Hard to impress” crowd? There’s so little live music in Dubai I’m impressed when the taxi driver sings me the songs of his people.

Robots would do dirty work
In the Facebook link to your editorial, Virtual assistance (September 25), you ask what we would do if we had a personal robot.
I’d get it to cook and clean my house.

Teachers need more respect
Teachers tell colleagues to do their research before UAE move (September 23) was interesting.
Teachers get no respect and are underpaid in some UAE schools. Many private schools are money-making machines for their management.
