The US Treasury Department is considering issuing a $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump.

US Treasurer Brandon Beach confirmed that designs of the coin were under consideration for release as part of America's 250th anniversary next year.

“Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over,” Mr Beach said in a post on X, referring to Congress's failure to pass a budget.

The front side of the coin features Mr Trump's face in profile, while the other side shows the President standing before the US flag with his fist raised below the words “fight, fight, fight”. The back side is a reference to Mr Trump's actions following an assassination attempt against him during his campaign last year.

“Despite the radical left’s forced shutdown of our government, the facts are clear: Under the historic leadership of President Donald J Trump, our nation is entering its 250th anniversary stronger, more prosperous, and better than ever before,” a Treasury Department representative said in a statement carried by Politico.

“While a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected to commemorate the United States’ semi-quincentennial, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles.”

Congress in 2020 passed legislation allowing the Treasury to mint $1 coins in 2026 “with designs emblematic of the US semi-quincentennial”.
