Dubai's public parking operator is to oversee paid parking operations at select Spinneys and Waitrose supermarkets in the emirate as part of a major expansion drive.
Parkin will manage parking spaces and enforcement action at four Spinneys branches – in Trade Centre Road in Karama, Motor City, Al Meydan and Umm Suqeim – and two Waitrose stores in Motor City and Al Thanya.
Under a partnership announced on Wednesday, shoppers will receive two hours of free parking, with hourly tariffs in place for stays which extend beyond this period.
Spinneys operates more than 70 supermarkets under its own brand, as well as the Waitrose and Al Fair brands in the UAE and Oman.
“Through this agreement with Spinneys and Waitrose, we are advancing our commitment to creating a more seamless and convenient shopping experience across Dubai,” said Parkin chief executive Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali. “We’re delivering a smoother and more efficient mobility experience at key retail destinations.”
Spinneys chief executive Sunil Kumar said the deal will help to manage traffic flow. “Ensuring easy, reliable access to our stores is a vital part of delivering a great shopping experience for every customer,” he said.
“By combining Parkin’s smart technology with our commitment to service, we are improving accessibility.”
Growing network
In January last year, Parkin introduced barrier-free parking systems at three malls in partnership with the Majid Al Futtaim Group. The systems were put in place at Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira and City Centre Mirdif under a five-year contract.
Since August, Parkin has also taken on the management of 2,100 paid parking spaces across 59 sites at Dubai mosques.
Parkin last month agreed a five-year partnership with Damac Properties to manage 3,600 paid parking spaces in its residential developments.
The deal with one of the UAE's leading real estate developers will enable Parkin to make its first inroads into the Abu Dhabi market.
Parkin was selected by the Dubai government to oversee the emirate's paid parking network in January 2024. It manages more than 200,000 spaces across Dubai.
