As more nations prepare to recognise Palestine at the UN General Assembly, our panel examines the implications

On September 12, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to endorse the "New York Declaration" – a road map towards Palestinian statehood.

The resolution, led by France and Saudi Arabia, is gaining traction as countries including the UK, Canada and Australia move to formally recognise the state of Palestine.

Of the UN's 193 member states, 147 already recognise the Palestinian territories. But key opponents – including Israel, the United States and eight others – warn of recklessness and playing to "Hamas propaganda".

Watch the replay of our live Q&A with The National's editors, correspondents and analysts as they unpack the diplomatic momentum, assess its potential impact on the ground, and ask whether this marks a genuine turning point or another symbolic gesture.
