A 12,000-strong UN peacekeeping force, MINUSCA, has kept armed rebel groups far from the capital, Bangui, with help from hundreds of Rwandan troops and Russian paramilitaries sent to shore up the country's ragged army

Moroccan peacekeepers from the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (Minusca) go on patrol in Bangassou. The south-eastern city was attacked by hundreds of militiamen from the Coalition of Patriots for Change, causing tens of thousands of people to flee into the bush and neighbouring DR Congo. Since late last year, the rebel coalition has taken control of main roads and several of CAR’s major cities. AFP
