Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, discussed the Gaza ceasefire and its preservation with King Abdullah of Jordan on Thursday.
Sheikh Mohamed flew to Amman and was met on the tarmac at Marka military airport by King Abdullah.
The national anthems of both nations were played, and Sheikh Mohamed saluted a guard of honour.
They agreed that the truce, introduced on May 21, needed regional and international assistance to succeed and to "reach a stable and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian issue that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people and achieves stability and development in the region", state news agency Wam reported.
Sheikh Mohamed thanked King Abdullah for Jordan's efforts, with Egypt, in brokering a ceasefire and stressed the importance of his role in caring for the holy sites in Jerusalem.
"The United Arab Emirates supports any step in this direction based on its approach to peace and coexistence and its belief that peace is the guarantee of a better future for the region," Wam quoted him as saying.
Sheikh Mohamed's high-level delegation included Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed and Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE ambassador to the US.
King Abdullah was accompanied by his son, Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, and Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh.
On arrival, Sheikh Mohamed said the visit "embodies the depth of brotherly relations between the UAE and Jordan and their brotherly peoples", Wam reported.
