Abu Dhabi residents are encouraged to take part in a number of virtual races and challenges to keep fit and healthy throughout the month of Ramadan. A host of initiatives have been launched by Abu Dhabi Sports Council including duathlons, stay at home 5K and 10K races, and virtual bike rides. Adnoc is also encouraging residents in the capital to join the Abu Dhabi Virtual Marathon, completing the equivalent of the full marathon distance – 42.2km – before May 31. Anyone who takes part in the virtual marathon challenge will receive a 20 per cent off voucher for entry to the Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon, set to take place in December, and will be entered into a draw to win free entry to the race. The distance can be completed over as many runs as participants feel comfortable. To take part, you need to register on the website and ensure you sync a smartwatch or tracker to ensure your distance is counted. And for those who really love a challenge, Adnoc is tasking those in Abu Dhabi to take part in a virtual vertical challenge to climb the equivalent of the Adnoc Tower, one of Abu Dhabi’s tallest buildings. Between Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 12, participants will need to complete 342 metres of vertical running, again measured by syncing a smart watch or tracker, and their time will automatically be entered onto a leaderboard. Adnoc recommends anyone undertaking any kind of distance challenge at home turn off their GPS system on their tracker, to allow distance to be measured accurately.
