The Land Cruiser also takes the top spot in a number of other countries around the region, including Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Lebanon.

The four-wheel-drive was first unveiled in 1951, and has since sold more than 10 million units around the world.

The Hyundai Accent, meanwhile, was named Saudi Arabia's best-selling car, and the marque's Tuscon also scored the No 1 spot in Jordan.

When it comes to total sales, the most in-demand vehicle worldwide was the Toyota Corolla, according to figures from Best Selling Cars.

Research estimated that around 1.48 million units of the Corolla were sold in 2019. The Ford F-Series came in second place, with 1.07 million sales, followed by Toyota's Rav4, with just shy of 970,000 sales.
