UNITED KINGDOM // If you think a Ferrari is too flash or a Lamborghini is too loud, then you'll love the latest news from Tata, the manufacturers of the Nano, the so-called cheapest car in the world. Previously only available in India, Tata Motors has confirmed its intentions to build budget Nanos for the European and US markets. Badged as the Nano Europa, the car should be on sale for around £4,500 (Dh26,900) when it hits showrooms in 2011. So what can customers expect from a car that is more than double the price of the original Nano? The Europa get a longer wheelbase and a more powerful 60hp 1.0L engine, doing away with the current four-speed manual gearbox in favour of a five-speed transmission. Other improvements include a more sophisticated suspension system, power steering, ABS and traction control, as well as an improved interior to match European expectations.
