ABU DHABI // Hyundai has rolled out the Genesis, a luxury rear-wheel drive sports saloon which will compete against premium offerings from BMW, Mercedes and Lexus. The South Korean manufacturer has invested $600 million (Dh2.23 bn) in developing the car, which will be available with a 3.8-litre engine initially, although a 4.6-litre V8 is expected to arrive in the UAE next year. The entry-level Genesis will cost Dh135,000 and Hyundai expects to sell 50,000 cars worldwide per year. A coupé version of the car is likely to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2009.
