AUSTRALIA // A very lucky koala in Southern Australia that was hit by a car travelling at 80kph and became trapped under its licence plate has survived. The driver thought the animal had died on impact, in the collision near Portland, Victoria, but was shocked to find it alive with its front paws and head sticking out of the front of the car. After phoning the local vet, the driver had to slowly take the car the 15kms to town with the animal still attached to the front grill. The veterinarian on duty, Lisia Sturm, was amazed to find the animal survived without a scratch. Sturm told ninemsm.com that the Koala was wedged in and couldn't get out: "It looked quite surprised if koalas can look surprised. "But he was a big boy and looked really healthy. He didn't have any injuries at all, not even a graze." The koala was cut from the grill with bolt cutters and kept under observation for the rest of the day before being released.
