Whatever their shape, make sure your light fittings are a feature in themselves. Here are some of our favourites
1 Love story
A seat, light source and sculpture all rolled into one, the Siobhan Loveseat is a stunner. The backlit bench is made from hand inlaid rattan twigs and resin by the Filipino designer Clayton Tugonon. We love the natural, textural feel of the piece and the fact that it can be customised.

2 Birds of a feather
French designer Mathieu Challières makes his La Volière lamps by hand in his studio in Paris. A beautiful aviary made from delicate but sturdy copper roasting houses a family of colourful birds crafted from real feathers. If this doesn't impress your guests, nothing will.

3 Rocking it
Young & Battaglia's Rocking Lamp is playful but not silly. A solid beech base is paired with a simple, white cotton shade, creating a modern, minimal lamp that will sit comfortably in any interior. The Rocking Lamp is handmade in the UK by traditional wood turners and lampshade makers and is available in this 45cm-high version as well as a 90cm-high floor-standing model.

4 Grin and bear it
Standing 18cm tall, the GummyGoods Nightlight is one sweet-looking bear (if you'll excuse the pun). A quick squeeze of its tummy will activate a high-powered LED light, offering instant illumination. The bear is battery operated and wall mountable and comes with a timer feature. The kids will love it; but we'd be tempted to keep it for ourselves.

5 Alternative reading
Black + Blum's Climbing Light reminds us of something out of a science fiction movie. With its silver-topped bulb, which creates an attractive downlight, and its simple but eye-catching design, it's certainly a striking alternative to your average reading lamp.

Should late investors consider cryptocurrencies?
Wealth managers recommend late investors to have a balanced portfolio that typically includes traditional assets such as cash, government and corporate bonds, equities, commodities and commercial property.
They do not usually recommend investing in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies due to the risk and volatility associated with them.
“It has produced eye-watering returns for some, whereas others have lost substantially as this has all depended purely on timing and when the buy-in was. If someone still has about 20 to 25 years until retirement, there isn’t any need to take such risks,” Rupert Connor of Abacus Financial Consultant says.
He adds that if a person is interested in owning a business or growing a property portfolio to increase their retirement income, this can be encouraged provided they keep in mind the overall risk profile of these assets.
