Snow globes are fabulous to make with children or to entertain a bigger crowd for a party.
You will need one jam jar per child, a small plastic toy, animal or character to stick inside, glitter or sparkles, waterproof craft glue, glycerine and distilled water (this is to give the snow globe longevity — ordinary tap water will discolour over time).
Let each child choose a figure, then help them glue it to the underside of the jam-jar lid. It now has to be left until the glue has set completely hard. (This might be a good time to put on a movie.)
Pour water into the glass jar so that it’s about three-quarters full. Add a few drops of glycerine. This is to make the water slightly viscous so that the “snow” doesn’t just fall to the bottom of the globe instantly after it’s been shaken. Then add about half a teaspoon of sprinkles or glitter to the water. Add more water, so that the jar is filled right to the top. Once you’re sure that the figure is securely anchored to the lid, screw the lid on.
Turn over and admire the snow globe in action.
