Kitchen style maven Julia Knight makes Dubai debut

Available outside the US for the first time, Julia Knight serveware, glassware and home decor is now being sold exclusively at Bloomingdale's Home in Dubai.

Using the art of sand casting, Julia Knight serveware is handcrafted out of aluminium. Each piece is hand-painted in Knight's signature combination of vibrant pastels and jewel-toned enamels infused with crushed mother-of-pearl. Many of the company's collections take inspiration from the natural world, including Flower, Peony, Shells and Leaves. We love the vibrant, shimmering hues of the Flower collection, with its organic shapes and pops of colour.

The designs are meant to be layered - so customers are encouraged to combine bowls, trays, glasses and serving plates to create their own individual tabletop statement. "My driving ambition is to create designs that insist on attracting your eye with their unexpected beauty - a beauty that transforms the everyday into something simply and completely wonderful," says the US-based Knight.

The durable, high-gloss, food-safe Julia Knight collection is now on display in the Fine Dining Department in Bloomingdale's Home, The Dubai Mall.

Three ways to limit your social media use

Clinical psychologist, Dr Saliha Afridi at The Lighthouse Arabia suggests three easy things you can do every day to cut back on the time you spend online.

1. Put the social media app in a folder on the second or third screen of your phone so it has to remain a conscious decision to open, rather than something your fingers gravitate towards without consideration.

2. Schedule a time to use social media instead of consistently throughout the day. I recommend setting aside certain times of the day or week when you upload pictures or share information.

3. Take a mental snapshot rather than a photo on your phone. Instead of sharing it with your social world, try to absorb the moment, connect with your feeling, experience the moment with all five of your senses. You will have a memory of that moment more vividly and for far longer than if you take a picture of it.
