Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a clutter-free space where you can relax, so decorate wisely - and sparingly.
Your bed is obviously the most important feature in the room. A high bed with a tall headboard will create the illusion of space. However, don't get carried away by aesthetics. Buy the best quality mattress that you can afford. Remember, you'll be spending more time on your bed than you will in your car, so it's a worthy investment.
Keep colours muted. You want your room to be a place of calm, so an accent wall in bright yellow probably isn't a good idea. Stick to warm shades or
pastels, with a few bolder accents. Also keep furniture and clutter to a minimum. Think carefully about how you move around your room. Leave enough space to open wardrobe doors; ensure that you can get to the balcony unobstructed, and that there is plenty of space on either side of the bed.
Invest in good quality blackout curtains and think about storage solutions. Use the space under your bed and place pretty baskets by your side tables to store magazines or unfiled paperwork. Finally, make sure that the lighting is right. You'll need a combination of ambient lighting and direct light for reading.
