One of the UAE’s favourite steakhouse chains, The Meat Co has launched an all-new menu in October, which is said to take inspiration from the company’s South African roots. It has been trading here for the past 13 years and has outlets in Abu Dhabi’s Souk Qaryat Al Beri, as well as Dubai’s Souk Madinat Jumeirah and Souk Al Bahar, and the revised selection of dishes will be available to customers at all three locations.

Head chef Praba Manickham, has been at pains to point out, however, that fans of the brand need not fear that their favourite dishes have been banished to the history books. “We have stuck to our guns over the years,” he says, “keeping the classic menu items that define our brand, at the same time constantly refining it to ensure that we are serving up the highest quality produce to the table. This is something we pride ourselves on and take very seriously.”

To that end, “classic favourites” including the authentic South African Boerewors, Rib Meat Burger and Hanging Skewers selection remain on the new menu which, adds Manickham, has been a full year in the making. “We tried and tested various dishes, as well as gaining valuable feedback from our loyal customers. We then refined it even further until we had the best menu possible.”

The Meat Co was founded in South Africa by Costa Tomazos and operates eight outlets – two in South Africa, one in Great Britain and five across the Middle East – all of which serve only halal food. The latest menu is a veritable meat lover's dream and includes starters such as Prime Steak Tartare, which is made from prime raw filet mignon, Rib Meat Cigars (braised rib meat with truffle pesto and roasted mushrooms, wrapped up in filo pastry and served with a side of kimchi mayo) and Wagyu Bresaola with Goat's Cheese. Seafood dishes are also available.

Some of the previous menu’s main courses have been given new "twists", for instance, options for personalising burgers, while the company says its steak menu has remained largely untouched except for a selection of new cuts of beef and sauces. If you’re particularly hungry, how about the Prime 1.2kg Tomahawk Steak? Probably best to share that one if you’re intent on walking away from the table at the end of the evening.
