Burj al Arab’s new seasonal offerings at Al Mahara restaurant are available in a six-course tasting menu priced at Dh1,285 per person. Flick through our slide show to see more and read about our top pics below.
Seasonal starter:
The Maine lobster came served on a bed of ice with a consommé made from sweet heirloom tomatoes. Lobster and cheese? Yes please, the surprise pairing of the succulent seafood with Stracciatella from Foggia in southern Italy was a triumph.
Seconds please:
A dish that I regretted eating quite so hurriedly was Al Maha’s ravioli packed with flavoursome Alaskan King crab and foie gras. It was served with sweet stewed leeks and a lightly creamed lobster jus.
Gluten-free glee:
While Al Mahara’s tasting menu includes a seared Angus beef course, the restaurant is famed for its fish. For gluten-free diners a great option is the Atlantic Wild turbot cooked in vine leaves, served with a vegetable blanquette, cep relish and tapioca.
Flight of fancy:
A decadent dish this season comes in the form of Label Rouge guinea fowl from Normandy. The skin was crispy and the succulent game-like meat complimented well by a rich foie gras beignet. As not to upstage the main attraction, sides included baby seasonal vegetables and a gratinated Swiss Chard.
Going for gold:
You’ll probably end up eating more gold than you’re wearing when you book in for the seasonal tasting menu at Burj al Arab. From sprinkles on starters to gold leaf piled high on deserts, the dining experience is a novel one. Check out our slide show to see chef’s take on a lemon meringue with verbena cream.
The National was a guest of the restaurant.
