From grilled fish and regag with yogurt to camel burgers and sweet potato with chami – here are foods to dig into at the Qasr Al Hosn Festival.
Grilled fish: Eat it the traditional way at Al Gargour food stand in the marine zone. You can pick out the fish and watch it being cooked in a circular metallic oven that has been cut into the ground or in a barbecue-type oven. Choices include Sultan Ibrahim, shark (gargoor) and yellowfin tuna – served with majboos or rice for Dh40.
Regag with yogurt (Hamid) – a light dish of bread, spices, mint leaves and yogurt – is available for Dh15 at Um Henna in the Abu Dhabi Island zone and is prepared by Emirati youth. The stand also sells karak chai for Dh3 and Namlet, an Emirati soda drink that is like lemonade, for Dh15.
Mini Camel Burger Sliders at Gahwa Restaurant inside The Cultural Foundation have been a hit with visitors. It costs Dh40 and is served with sweet potato fries.
A popular vegetarian dish at Gahwa is baked sweet potato with chami – sweet potato with laban, lemon and a honey dip – costing Dh35. Different flavours of Arabic coffee can be tasted for Dh10 a cup, options include saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and rose water.
