Given that she's been married for just about a week, and still has mehendi on her hands, we were expecting Sonam Kapoor to wear an Indian outfit to the Cannes Film Festival this week.
The new bride looked every bit the gracious style icon in a heavily embroidered, full-bodied lehenga skirt in off white worn with an embellished cropped bodice with asymmetrical sleeves. The ensemble was put together by London-based couture house Ralph & Russo, who have collaborated with the Bollywood actress in the past.
The actress wore a pair of Chopard diamond studs and braided her hair using a traditional parandi or naga jadai. The decorative braid accessory, the earliest version of hair extensions, adds inches to the tresses, and is typically worn by Indian brides and is usually plated with gold and adorned with pearls and other semi-precious stones.
Her make-up was kept minimal and natural, quite like at her own wedding. The L'Oreal brand ambassador wore the brand's Bare Attraction lipstick, Antique Brass smoky shadow and Superstar mascara. We did think she looked a bit drawn and tired, though, although that might just be down to the fact that she hates flying, as she told Luxury magazine earlier this month.
Before her turn on the red carpet, Kapoor stepped out in a Mother of Pearl design, a black and white polka-dotted maxi-dress, paired with Chloé boots. She also put on a bright and floral Delpozo attire for an auction dinner, which seemed more suited to a day event, but she dressed it up with de Grisogono jewellery, Charlotte Olympia sandels and a Jimmy Choo clutch.
